VILLENA MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL, ALSO IN ENGLISH!
Villena Medieval Festival is ready to welcome visitors FROM all different backgrounds. This year, for the second time, the festival’s program of events will include activities in English, so that the many international visitors can enjoy and take part in the activities. In fact, being open to all is one of the keys to Villena Medieval Festival.
In 2024, we will offer different activities in English Especially prepared with guided tours of the castle and the old town. We will also offer wine tastings in the best winery in Villena and visit cave houses providing a sensory experience through storytelling. How lovely!
On Friday, March 8
At 4:30 pm. Tour in English to the Atalaya Castle. Visitors will experience one of the most impressive castles in the Land of Valencia and be amazed by the incredible views from its battlements. Tickets for this tour will be on sale at the Castle Tourist Office for only €3.
On Saturday, March 9
At 10.30 am. There is a guided tour to Villena’s old town. Visitors can learn about the rich heritage of our old town. This interesting visit will be free of charge and will last about an hour, so anyone interested in attending JUST needs to be at Santiago Square at the indicated time.
At 11.30 am. TUAREG EXPERIENCE. Visits to the Tuareg cave houses. Admission 5€.

At 17.00 am. Visit to the Painter’s cave house. Every year, with the arrival of spring, the city of Villena transforms and returns to the past. In the next Medieval Fair, local artist Juan Monzón Gasca will reopen his studio and the caves to the public. A journey to transport yourself in time through the knowledge of Art and its traditional materials. The exciting story where Orient and Occident meet in the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean. This year’s visit will be about Villena’s lime and its application in fresco mural painting. The visitor will be able to see first-hand the entire artistic and technical process of buonfresco as well as visit the caves of the singular studio of the artist.
In the first part of the dramatized visit, an old merchant will explain the process of obtaining lime and its uses throughout the history of the city of Villena. Next, the painter will demonstrate how to prepare the wall and how to make a fresco painting.
On Sunday, March 10
At 10.00 am. VILLENA’S WINE: an immersion in Villena’s history through one of its most emblematic treasures: wine. Throughout the experience, we delve into the history of Las Virtudes, Villena’s oldest winery. We will detail the fascinating wine-making process, with a special emphasis on Fondillón, and offer the opportunity to taste a selection of our most representative wines and oils.
Guided Tour + Tasting (English). The tour consists of a walk through of our winery, where our history and the production process of our wines will be explained, with a special focus on Fondillón. Finally, a tasting session will be held featuring 3 wines, 2 olive oils, and Fondillón, accompanied by homemade cold cuts, cheese, nuts, wood-fired oven bread, and pastries to pair with Fondillón (Options available for vegan, vegetarian, and allergen-free, with prior notice). The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and requires prior reservation. The price per person is €20.
